Angela Mary Corry

I commenced practice in Auckland in 1983 and joined the bar in 1992. My partner and I settled in Christchurch in 2005, where I have continued practice as a barrister.

My focus is on:

• relationship property;

• associated trust, company and estate litigation;

• child law, often as counsel appointed by the court to represent children;

• protection of the vulnerable from psychological, physical, sexual and economic abuse.

My work is predominately litigation, in all courts. Recent cases include:

  • R v R, CIV 2020-409-279. An early appeal seeking a substantive interpretation of certain parts of the Family Violence Act 2018, an act   designed to protect vulnerable people subject to family violence.
  • Li v Wu and Fan  [2019] NZHC 2461. Complex relationship property litigation which included argument about the existence and status of alleged assets and debts in New Zealand and China.
  • K v T [2018] NZFC 5976. Complex and protracted care and parenting litigation, which included appeals to the High Court on certain issues.
  • Findlay v Findlay [2017] NZHC 2797. A claim for compensation in respect of contributions to a company and trust.

Heazlewood v Joie De Vivre Canterbury Ltd & Anor CA499/2014 [2015] NZCA 213. Part of longstanding and complex relationship property litigation, involving associated trust and companies, in which the Court of Appeal held that notices of claim be sustained.

I have written seminars papers on:

  • claims against estates;
  • caveats and how to sustain or challenge them;
  • best use of mediation;
  • efficiency in relationship property mediation.

I am a member of the NZ Law Society, the Family Law Section, the NZ Bar Association and am a LEADR qualified mediator.

In a personal capacity, my partner and I have a keen interest in child welfare and are Oranga Tamariki approved caregivers.

Areas of practice: litigation and legal advice as to:

  • Relationship property
  • Spousal maintenance
  • Claims against trusts
  • Claims against estates
  • Child law
